Local Heritage Day Celebration

Heritage Day is one of the newly declared South African public holiday, a day in which all cultures are encouraged to celebrate their cultural traditions in the wider context of the great diversity of cultures, beliefs, and traditions that make up the nation of South Africa.

In KwaZulu-Natal, the 24th of September was formerly known as Shaka Day, in commemoration of the legendary Zulu king, King Shaka Zulu.  A compromise was therefore reached when it was decided to create a day where all South Africans could observe and celebrate their diverse cultural heritage.

Endumeni local municipality staff took an initiative to dig deeper into their wardrobes and seeking out their traditional attire to celebrate their harmony in diversity. With that said, Endumeni Local Municipality hosted a successful heritage day celebration whereby all staff members were dressed up in their traditional attires with a variety of traditional food.
