Endumeni Local Municipality officials along with Wasbank residents were captured during the sod turning ceremony.
A sod turning ceremony marked the sanctioned start of construction on the new Wasbank Sports Facility Project situated in Wasbank area.
The project worth R3.5 million seeks to resuscitate public open ground and promote sport with the youth and to formalise the sporting facilities where this does not exist.
Endumeni Local Municipality Honourable Speaker S.B Mdluli uttered that it is beyond reasonable doubt that the sporting ground will add a bit of income for local business sector and create job opportunities.
This Sports field has been designed in accordance with Kwa-Zulu Natal Department of Sports and Recreation Standards and the building have been designed in accordance with SANS 10400 (The Application of the National Building Regulations).
Project coordinator Muziwandile Ntanzi said that the project facility will be used for gatherings, rallies and to assist young people developing their sporting talent. He further urged the community to work together with the selected construction company to fasten the process of building ground.
“Job opportunities will be created for the people in the area however; we need the youth that holds Civil Engineering certificate can come to gain working experience and in the engineering field,” Ntanzi added.
